All of us aims to be successful in many different aspects of our lives. We want to be the one who really shines out the most in our family, friends, hobby, or in our work. That's why many people today are very workaholic, because they want to be successful. Is there something wrong with that? Yes.
Huh, why? How could that be wrong?
Being workaholic becomes wrong when WORK becomes > than God.
We might ask ourselves, "So what? This is for my own future, my life, my plans, and my goals. I don't completely forget God though, I still pray."
My dear friends, let us not forget that God is the One who gave everything to you; your talents, skills, capabilities, resources, and even you WORK. After all, you once prayed to God to bless you with a work before, right?
In Matthew 25:14-15, God called His servants. The first servant was given 5 talents, the second servant was given 2 talents, and the third servant was given 1 talent. The first servant worked outrageously! As a result, he gained another 5 talents. In total, he had 10 talents. The second servant, worked hard too! His talents were doubled and he had 4 talents in total. But the third servant who had only one talent, didn't use his talents, instead, he buried them thinking that he was "protecting" or "preserving" it.
You know what, my friends? Everything we want to achieve or want to have, they may seem impossible, but we CAN work for them! The secret to gaining something we want is when we actually work for them; not just praying for something magical or miraculous to happen.
The first lesson we could get from his story is: SUCCESS IS A PRODUCT OF OUR WORK!
As Christians, we have a mission that the Lord wants us to accomplish. Everyday, we must work for it -- His word. How? By reading, understanding, applying, and sharing it.
This teaches us what we are supposed to do while we are waiting for the return of our King. Like the 3 servants, who had a mission to be fulfilled while they were waiting for their Master.
When the Mater returned, He expected that the servants used their talents. Why? Because God EXPECTS you to use your talents for His glory! This is one way of paying Him back for all of the things He did for us.
The second lesson of this story is: GOD GAVE US EVERYTHING WE NEED TO FULFILL WHAT HE WANTS US TO DO.
Yes, it is hard to know the worth of our talents. But think of it as a large sum of money (1 million = 1 talent, for example). Honestly, we are tempted to feel sorry for the servant who received only one talent. It seemed unfair, right?
BUT IN REALITY, he received as much as 1 million dollars, but he didn't use it. He was given more than enough to meet the Master's expectations, but he chose to bury it. In the end, he didn't benefit it at all.
Just like them, we are also given talents. These talents helps us fulfill the things that He wants us to do. We must not hide them. Actually, making the 5 talents propagate or grow is harder than that 1 talent because it's bigger!
The third lesson here is: WE SHOULD WORK FOR THE MASTER, NOT FOR OUR SELFISH PURPOSES.
Maximize the use of your talents to glorify God! After all, without Him, you have n o t h i n g .
God wants you to use your talents that He has given you. Don't be afraid to use them. Don't hide your talents!
All you need to do is to serve Him.
If you're waiting for a sign to join a ministry, maybe this is it.
